But, over the next four games he was decent and the team started to win so I bit my tongue and accept him as the starting QB. But now he’s on a streak of three of the worst games I’ve ever seen a QB play and his piss poor play throughout the year has all but cost the Patriots a chance at a playoffs.

Over the last three games he has posted a QB rating of 23.6, 87.4 and 53.9. In the game where he posted the 87.4, he had 69 yards passing. In those three games he had just one passing touchdown to three interceptions while completing just 56% of his passes. Long story short, he can’t throw the football.

Sure, he’s made some plays with his legs and has scored a bunch of rushing touchdowns but that’s not what you’re looking for from your QB. It’s certainly not what I’m looking for. I want a QB who can make plays with his arm. I want a QB who can read the defense, find the open receiver, make a good throw, complete the pass and do it consistently. This is something Cam Newton can no longer do, if he could ever really do it in the first place.

When I watch Cam Newton play I see a QB who can’t read a defense, struggles to find the open receiver, gets flustered in the pocket, has zero awareness or feel for the pass rush, fires balls into the ground on short passes, under throws receivers on deep passes. Let’s be honest, he is a terrible QB.

When the Patriots signed him, I liked the move. I thought he could still play, I thought he’d be a good fit, I thought he could adequately replace Tom Brady. I was wrong. The only positive thing you can say about Cam is that personality wise he’s been a good fit, his teammates and coaches like him. But in a weird way that might actually be hurting the Patriots, as it appears the team is hesitant to bench him. Are they just playing him because he’s a nice guy?

If Bill Belichick truly does what’s best for the team, Cam Newton would’ve been benched weeks ago. There is no way you can tell me Jarrett Stidham would be any worse than Can Newton. I’m not sure there’s a QB in the league who would be worse than Cam Newton at this point. Every time Stidham has been given a chance this season he has impressed. He might have the two best throws of the season for the Patriots. His touchdown pass to N’Keal Harry in Kansas City and his touchdown pass to Gunner Olszewski in LA were both things of beauty. On the Harry pass, Stidham threw a textbook fade pass. He had perfect trajectory and nice touch, it doesn’t get much better than that throw. On the Olszewski pass, Stidham pump faked and pulled up the safety, fired a perfect spiral right into the open spot and hit Olszewski in stride for a touchdown. Those are elite NFL quarterbacks throws right there. We haven’t seen anything remotely close to throws like that from Cam this year. There’s no question that Stidham has his flaws but he has the tools to be an excellent QB and I think he deserves a chance to showcase his talents on the field. I think we as Patriots fans deserve to see him starting at QB.

The Patriots season is all but over and Cam Newton is not the future so with three games left there is absolutely no reason to play him in these final games. Jarrett Stidham should be starting for the Patriots. I personally believe he can make the team better this year but it’s too late for that now so now it’s time to start building something for the future.

If Stidham isn’t what I think he is, you’ll at least know and can go into the offseason knowing you need to completely rebuild the QB room. I understand it might not be a fair shake for Stidham due to lack of talent and deficiencies on the offense but despite their lack of elite talent, I have seen guys get open this year and Cam either can’t find them or throws a terrible pass in there direction. Give Stidham a chance to utilize the weapons they do have on offense.

There’s enough there with Stidham to warrant him getting playing time. And I don’t mean the 4th quarter of a blowout. He deserves to get a full week of practice and prep, the game plan should be built around his strengths and you go into game day knowing he’s the starter. If the Patriots do that I think they will be pleasantly surprised at how improved the passing game would be and I feel 100% confident in saying that. Cam Newton can’t throw the football, he’s a terrible QB and he should not start another game for the New England Patriots.
Tim Amarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13828596405228402367noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3562896846794880071.post-83278845706043792222020-11-30T02:40:00.000-05:002020-11-30T02:40:53.541-05:00Coaching Matters
It’s refreshing every time you get a reminder that coaching matters in football. In fact, it’s the most important thing in football. Without good coaching you are nothing.

Take today for example, you have Bill Belichick and the Patriots holding the Cardinals to a season worst offensive performance and winning a must win game on the same day you have Tom Brady’s Buccaneers allowing Tyreek Hill to run wild for 13 catches, 269 yards and 3 touchdowns and losing a big game to the Chiefs.
Just a reminder, this is the same Tyreek Hill that was held to just 4 catches for 64 yards against the Patriots earlier in the season. Game planning your opponents, stopping what they do best, making them beat you in different ways. It’s things like that, that make all the difference.

Maybe now Brady is starting to realize that it wasn’t so bad around here in New England. Maybe the best coach in football knew what he was doing. Maybe Belichick was actually what Brady needed.

Brady is down in Tampa Bay with a loaded offense, not to mention a decent defense but his coach and their program is horrible. They are underachieving and Bruce Arians is the reason. The Buccaneers have no discipline, they aren’t prepared, they are lazy, they’re stupid. Deficiencies you will never find in a Patriots team. The Bucs don’t game plan for specific opponents as evidenced by today’s performance. You can have all the offensive weapons in the world and build yourself a “super team” but if you don’t have the coaching, you’re not going anywhere.

The Patriots are just one game worse than the Bucs in the loss column and have been better than the Bucs over the last month and it’s all because of coaching. Maybe the game plans, the X’s & O’s haven’t been perfect all year, although BB’s had a few really good ones, it’s more about the culture, the discipline, the knowledge, the effort. This team is far from one of the more talented teams we’ve seen here in New England but Belichick sets a tone and an expectation, he maximizes his roster, he puts guys in position to succeed and his team fights. They may not win every game but they compete each and every week. They do the things necessary to put themselves in position to win.

Don’t get me wrong, Brady is the GOAT but anyone who thought the Patriots success over the last 20 years was more about Brady than Belichick was mistaken. Too many people have taken Bill Belichick for granted, he’s the main reason the Patriots have had their unprecedented success over the last 20 years. Coaching matters in football and the Patriots have the greatest coach that this game has ever seen.
Tim Amarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13828596405228402367noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3562896846794880071.post-14610221205078102482014-05-08T19:35:00.001-04:002014-05-08T19:35:24.904-04:002014 NFL Mock Draft
Round 1
1. This is more of a wish list than a list of realistic possibilities. I'd be happy if the Patriots signed just a few of these players.

1. Donte Whitner, S - Love me some Whitner. This Ohio State Buckeye is a hard hitting Safety who would bring instant physicality to the Patriots D. He is the perfect compliment to McCourty. He would also bring a veteran presence and leadership.

2. Eric Decker, WR - It's time to give Tom Brady a legit playmaking outside receiver. Some would argue Decker isn't even that but I'm not one of them. He is a big physical receiver who makes explosive plays down field. He would fit in perfect here and remember Josh McDaniels drafted Decker in Denver.

3. Aqib Talib, CB - This is the Patriots biggest free agent this year and they must find a way to resign him. When Talib is healthy he is a difference maker on this Defense.

4. Vonte Davis, CB - If the Patriots can't resign Talib they have to go get Davis. In my opinion Talib and Davis are the two best Corners in free agency and they must come away with one of them. Davis is just entering his prime and his best football is yet to come.

5. Arthur Jones, DT/DE - I love the idea of the Jones brothers, Chandler and Arthur playing next to each other on the Patriots D-line. Jones is a versatile lineman who is great against the run and can also get after the QB. He's played a lot of DT in his career while playing mostly at DE last season.

6. Justin Tuck, DE - Tuck is versatile being able to play inside on passing downs while primarily playing DE. Tuck is a dominant pass rusher but is also stout against the run.

7. Julian Edelman, WR - Edelman is way too important to the Patriots to let him walk. He is not only their most reliable receiver, he is also a great punt returner. He works well with Brady and in McDaniels offense. He's a must resign.

8. Brandon Pettigrew, TE - Pettigrew is a complete tight end. He's a great blocker and a good receiver. He's a better version of Hoomanawanui. The Patriots love playing in two tight end sets and Gronk and Pettigrew could be unstoppable together.

9. Chris Clemons, S - Clemons is an underrated Safety on the market this offseason. He's been a solid starter in Miami for years and could be a huge upgrade over Gregory opposite McCourty. He's good in coverage which is very important this day in age of the NFL.

10. Emmanuel Sanders, WR - I liked the idea of Sanders on the Patriots last offseason and I still like it now. He would add explosiveness to the Patriots offense. He can play inside and outside. I expect the Patriots to make a run at him and this year Pittsburgh can't get in the way.

Tim Amarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13828596405228402367noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3562896846794880071.post-31334241877826334962014-03-07T18:32:00.001-05:002014-03-09T20:43:01.194-04:00Potential Patriots Free Agent SigningsHere is a list of free agents I think the Patriots could realistically sign once free agency begins next Tuesday. The Patriots love value and I believe these players provide that along with filling needs on this football team.

1. Julian Edelman, WR - Edelman is extremely likely to sign with the Patriots cause he's their guy. He has a great rapport with Tom Brady and we know he excels in the Patriots system. He probably won't cost too much either as he isn't without question marks.

2. Aqib Talib, CB - Another one of their own, I expect the the Patriots to go hard after Talib. He fits the way the wanna play defense and has been a difference maker on this defense when healthy. He is expected to get more money then last offseason but the Patriots still shouldn't have to break the bank to resign him.

3. Emmanuel Sanders, WR - The Patriots obviously had interest in Sanders last offseason, I'd expect the same this year. Except this time around Pittsburgh won't be able to match the offer. I'd put good money on Sanders signing with New England.

4. Malcolm Jenkins, S - Safety is an obvious need for the Patriots and Jenkins is a hard hitting, physical, veteran Safety who would be a great fit next to McCourty. Another big factor is he can be had for a lot less money than some of the top Safeties (ie. Byrd and Ward) on the market.

5. Jared Allen, DE - Still a solid pass rusher and brings a great veteran presence. Allen could come to New England and dramatically improve their pass rush. He is older and should be an affordable option on the D-line.

6. Dustin Keller, TE - Coming off an injury his stock is way down and he might not be ready to start next season. I think once he gets healthy though this guy is a player. Belichick loves him some Tight Ends, there's no doubt he signs one or two this offseason and Keller would be a great low risk high reward option.

7. Anthony Spencer, DE - I've always liked Spencer and his versatility. He can play both DE and OLB, he's solid in the run game and as a pass rusher. The thing is he's 30 years old and coming off a season ending injury so his market might not be very high.

8. Rich Ohrnberger, C/G - The former Patriot is a versatile interior offensive lineman who started at Center for the Chargers at the end of last year including their Playoff games. He could be an upgrade at either Guard or Center for the Patriots and he knows the system.

9. LeGarrette Blount, RB - I don't think Blount will have a huge market and can be had for cheap money. He played so well here in New England complimenting Ridley and Vereen, I think there's a good chance he returns.

10. Brandon Browner, CB - Browner has to serve a 4 game suspension to start the year but that's never scared away the Patriots before (see Talib). Browner is a legit Corner when he's actually on the field. When he comes back in week 5 he could instantly be the Patriots best CB. His price tag will obviously be low due to his suspension.
Tim Amarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13828596405228402367noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3562896846794880071.post-49053262128453261502013-04-25T18:56:00.001-04:002013-04-25T18:56:59.721-04:002013 NFL Mock Draft 6.0Round 1

29. Robert Woods, WR, USC - I've been saying Woods will be this pick for weeks. It seems like the Patriots really like this kid. He is a smart receiver coming from a sophisticated offense at USC. Polished route runner with great hands. He's a playmaker and will start from day 1 with the Patriots.

Round 2

59. Alex Okafor, DE, Texas - Okafor was one of the best pass rushers in college football last year recording 12.5. He is very athletic and can get after the QB but he is also solid against the run. He even moved inside and played a little DT at Texas. He is expeted to be a left DE in the NFL which would be perfect opposite Chandler Jones.

Round 3

91. Tyrann Mathieu, CB/S, LSU - A lot of baggage comes with Mathieu but the Patriots seem very interested. He has met with Patriots multiple times. Belichick has no problem taking pot guys who slip. He is a playmaker on the field. He is versatile and has a swagger the Patriots Defense could use.

Round 7

226. Josh Boyce, WR, TCU - Boyce is a versatile WR, he lined up outside and in the slot at TCU. He is a big physical receiver. He has good hands and runs crisp routes. One of the best players in the 3 cone drill at the Combine which is something the Patriots look for. The Patriots have had success drafting WR in the 7th round (Givens & Edelman) so look for them to try it again this year especially with WR being a need.

235. Dustin Hopkins, K, Florida State - Hopkins is considered one of the best Kickers in this Draft. He has a strong leg with reliable accuracy. Has shown the ability to make high pressure kicks. This isn't a huge need for the Patriots but I believe they need to find someone better and more consistent than Gostkowski.

1. Robert Woods, WR, USC - To me Woods might be the best all around WR in this Draft. He is smart, physical and fast. He is a polished route runner. He has great vision and is dynamic in open space. He has great hands and makes all the catches. He played under Lane Kiffin in a pro style offense at USC. Obviously WR is a big need for the Patriots and Woods is the player I want.

2. DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson - Hopkins is a strong physical WR. He makes some tremendous catches. He was super productive at Clemson. He will be a great outside WR in this league.

3. Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington - The Patriots could obviously use some help in the secondary. I like Trufant a lot, he's a hard worker and an intense competitor. He's got football in his blood. He's an athletic and physical corner, solid all around. Really good in run support. I actually like him as much as projected top 15 pick Dee Milliner.

4. Datone Jones, DE, UCLA - Jones is a complete DE. He can stop the run and is a solid pass rusher. He is tough and has a mean streak. He is versatile and can move inside to DT as well. Great effort and work ethic. Patriots need an upgrade opposite Chandler Jones at left DE.

5. Jesse Williams, DT, Alabama - Big, Strong, and Athletic Lineman who can play both DT and DE. Williams is a nasty physical player. He is great against the run and is a decent pass rusher as well.

6. Alec Ogletree, LB, Georgia - Draft stock is slipping due to his recent DUI. Very athletic LB. He can play inside and outside. He is a good coverage LB which the Patriots could use. He will struggle against the run in the NFL, he needs to add some bulk. In my opinion he would be a steal at #29.

7. Matt Elam, S, Florida - Playmaking, hard hitting safety. Great tackler. Belichick loves Florida players and the Patriots need a long term Safety next to McCourty.

8. Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State - Another solid corner in this Draft. He is a physical corner but has good speed too. He has good instincts and awareness. He fits the type of defense the Patriots run.

9. Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State - Werner's stock has dropped during the Draft process but he was a projected top 10 pick following the season. His film is impressive. He could be a steal at #29. He is a great pass rusher but needs to improve against the run.

10. DJ Hayden, CB, Houston - Hayden is rising fast. He's considered by some as the top CB in this class. He has elite speed and breaks on the ball well. Very athletic. He's dealt with some health issues with his heart in the past but seems healthy now. His potential is extremely high.
I believe it is the New England Patriots biggest need in the Draft and I expect them to address it in early and often. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Patriots double dip at WR in this Draft. Here's a look at my Wide Receiver Rankings for the 2013 NFL Draft.

1. Tavon Austin, West Virginia - Austin is a terrific slot receiver. He's an explosive playmaker. He is not only quick but fast. Very good in space. Dangerous return man. Tough player, will take a hit. Only question mark is durability due to his size.

2. DeAndre Hopkins, Clemson - Hopkins is one of the most productive receivers in this Draft. Last season at Clemson he had 18 touchdowns and over 1,400 yards. He is a strong physical receiver. Fearless over the middle. He catches the ball well and has outstanding footwork. Hopkins has excellent awareness and runs sharp routes.

3. Robert Woods, USC - Woods is probably my favorite receiver in this Draft. He is a savvy receiver. He played in a pro style offense at USC. Very smart player. He is a polished route-runner. He's a solid blocker. Woods is an extremely hard worker and team player.

4. Cordarrelle Patterson, Tennessee - Patterson is a good player but a bit overrated. He is a big strong receiver who has good speed as well. He has good hands. His route-running needs work. He is raw but has potential. He has a good football IQ and seems focused on improving his game.

5. Keenan Allen, Cal - The first thing you have to mention with Allen is his health. He is coming off a knee injury and people wonder if he can return to form. He is a very gifted receiver. He has a great combination of size and speed. Before the injury he was a top 10 prospect, now he's slipping.

6. Stedman Bailey, West Virginia - One of my biggest sleepers in this Draft. I believe Bailey could eventually be the best WR from this Draft. He is a natural receiver. He runs sharp routes, he's smooth catching the ball, he has great awareness. Bailey is very experienced, he was a 3 year starter. Played every receiver spot on the field.

7. Justin Hunter, Tennessee - Hunter is a tall receiver with a big catch radius. He has deceptive speed. He is your typical deep threat receiver. He has durability concerns and is considered soft by some. He isn't very physical and doesn't like to take hits. Again your typical deep threat receiver.

8. Quinton Patton, Louisiana Tech - Patton possesses an Athletic build. He is a quick receiver and runs good routes. He doesn't have breakaway speed. He tracks the ball well and makes nice catches. He is a solid blocking receiver.

9. Terrence Williams, Baylor - Williams has excellent speed. He has a long stride and accelerates well. He has good flexibility which leads to making some impressive catches down field. Not the best route-runner. Williams is a smart football player and has good leadership qualities.
10. Aaron Dobson, Marshall - Dobson is a savvy route runner. He has good speed. He had an impressive showing at Marshall's Pro Day and opened some eyes. He has small hands but still catches the ball pretty well. Better football player than athlete, which is fine in my book.
NFL Draft - Top 10 Sleepers1. Stedman Bailey, WR, West Virginia - Bailey is a terrific route runner and reads coverages well. He has great hands and makes some amazing catches. He lacks elite speed but is quick, especially off the snap. He is also on the shorter side at 5'10". (Projected 3rd Round Selection)

2. Corey Lemonier, OLB, Auburn - Lemonier is a terrific pass rusher. He needs to add some strength to improve his run defense but he can sure get after the QB. He could play some DE but it likely an OLB at the next level. (Projected 3rd Round Selection)

3. John Simon, DE, Ohio State - Simon has a great work ethic and is a tremendous leader on and off the football field. He is a solid pass rusher and is very versatile, he can lineup at DE or OLB. (Projected 3rd-4th Round Selection)

4. Kiko Alonso, LB, Oregon - Kiko has some red flags but he is an incredible athlete. He can play every LB position, inside or outside. He is excellent in coverage. (Projected 3rd Round Selection)

5. Phillip Thomas, S, Fresno State - Thomas is a physical safety with excellent coverage skills. He lead the country in Interceptions last season. In a good safety draft class, Thomas has been over shadowed but he is as good as any safety in this class. (Projected 2nd-3rd Round Selection)

6. David Quessenberry, OL, San Jose State - Quessenberry had a great showing at the combine. He's a very good athlete and an exceptional pass protector. He started every game at left tackle for the last 3 seasons. He could play tackle or guard in the NFL. He played against small school competition which is one of his big question mark. (Projected 4th Round Selection)

7. Darius Slay, CB, Mississippi State - The other corner from Mississippi State. Slay is an athletic corner who recognizes routes well. He only started in his senior year so he's a bit inexperienced but has great potential. (Projected 2nd-3rd Round Selection)

8. Giovani Bernard, RB, North Carolina - Bernard is a strong back. He lacks off the charts speed but makes solid cuts to free himself up. He's a smart player who has terrific vision. Gio also shows good leadership skills on and off the field. (Projected 2nd-3rd Round Selection)

9. Matt Scott, QB, Arizona - Scott is a dual threat at quarterback. He can make all the throws and is very accurate. He did not play in a pro style offense at Arizona and will need some time to develop in the NFL. (Projected 4th-5th Round Selection)

10. Jake Stoneburner, TE, Ohio State - Stoneburner is a good receiving tight end. He doesn't have great speed but is quick and can get open. Not a great blocker but in this day and age he can make it in this league as a receiving tight end. (Projected 6th Round Selection)
Sign Safety Ed Reed - Reed would do wonders for the Patriots Defense. He would bring this Defense together. He is a smart leader that Belichick loves. The Patriots need an upgrade at Safety next to McCourty. He could be the second coming of Rodney Harrison.

2. Resign Cornerback Aqib Talib - The Patriots Defense changed when Talib arrived in mid-season last year. He made them significantly better and is a must keep for the Patriots. His market is up in the air but if the Patriots think they won't be able to work out a deal they should franchise him.

3. Sign Wide Receiver Greg Jennings - Dwayne Bowe was the Receiver I wanted most but since he resigned with the Chiefs I'll go to my second option. I think the Patriots offense needs a change, they need to become more explosive and Jennings can provide that. If I had to choose between keeping Welker and signing Jennings, I'd pick Jennings.

4. Sign Defensive End Dwight Freeney - Freeney would be a great Defensive End opposite Chandler Jones for the next couple years. He can still get to the Quarterback. He's looking to play on a 4-3 team after his play dropped in a 3-4 last year in Indianapolis. He wants to be a pass rushing 4-3 DE and he can be that in New England.

5. Sign Wide Receiver Danny Amendola - I'm ready to move on from Wes Welker and use his money to sign a more explosive outside receiver (see #3, Jennings). But even after signing a receiver like Jennings the Patriots will still have to add a receiver to play the slot and I think Amendola fits the bill. He's previously worked with McDaniels which makes this move more likely.

6. Resign Wide Receiver Julian Edelman - Edelman is a great punt returner and a good back up receiver. He is an important piece to this Patriots team. Belichick loves Edelman and I expect him back.

7. Resign Cornerback Kyle Arrington - Arrington was good in the slot for the Patriots last season. He has been solid for the last three years in New England. You can probably get him for a good price.

8. Sign Wide Receiver Teddy Ginn Jr - Ginn is a terrific kick returner and can provide good depth at Receiver. With Jeff Demps future in question the Patriots need to bring in a player to solidify their return game.

9. Sign Defensive Tackle Desmond Bryant - Bryant's stock is dropping after his arrest last week but has that ever stopped the Patriots from picking up a guy? With his stock dropping, his price will also drop providing great value for the Patriots. He is an excellent interior pass rusher and that is a big need for the Patriots. He's be a perfect fit.

10. Sign Linebacker Kaluka Maiava - Maiava is an excellent special teams player and a good coverage linebacker which the Patriots need. He is the type of linebacker you can sub in on 3rd down to play in coverage instead of having Spikes or Hightower out there. He would definitely help the Patriots Defense on passing downs.
As we all know the Patriots are always looking for value and I think these Free Agents would provide just that.

1. John Abraham, DE, Atlanta - Abraham is still a quality pass rusher and would be a nice rotation guy on the Patriots defensive line. He's not a full time player anymore but in sub packages he can provide an upgrade over what Trevor Scott and Jermaine Cunningham provided last season.

2. Connor Barwin, DE/OLB, Houston - Barwin is a versatile player, he can play DE or OLB. In the Patriots 4-3 Defense he would likely be a DE. He can get after the Passer and is solid against the run. He had a down year in 2012 so his stock is not that high right now but he's only 26 and has big potential.

3. Julian Edelman, WR, New England - This is one of their own guys I think they need to bring back. I'm a big fan of Edelman. I think he is a great punt returner and a solid receiver. He added a dimension to the Patriots offense last season that they missed once he went out. He is a player I believe the Patriots can bring back on a good deal and I think they should.

4. Danny Amendola, WR, St. Louis - I believe Amendola can replace Welker if he leaves. I'm not as worried about his injury history as others. If you look at his production in St. Louis and translate it to New England's Offense he is a 100 catch, 1,000 yard, 5 Touchdown player, easily. He would put up Welker numbers in New England and I for one would rather Amendola going forward over Welker.

5. Mike Jenkins, CB, Dallas - Jenkins has a ton of talent but is a bit of a head case and has never lived up to his potential. People think that a change of scenery might be able to get him on track. He is a big physical cornerback who could make a difference on this defense. A solid locker room like New England's could help him.

6. Kaluka Maiava, LB, Cleveland - Maiava is a good coverage linebacker. That's exactly what the Patriots need. Maiava would be the perfect LB to rotate in with Spikes in passing situations. He is also a solid Special Teams player.

7. Brent Grimes, CB, Atlanta - He was one of the top Free agents a year ago, went back to the Falcons on the Franchise Tag and got injured early in the year. Because of that his stock is way down this year in Free agency but he is really talented and if healthy an elite corner. I expect his price tag to be low based on his injury in 2012 and it might open the door for the Patriots to get a good deal.

8. Ted Ginn Jr, WR, San Francisco - The Patriots could use a kick returner and depth at Wide Receiver and Ginn can provide both. He is a great kick returner.

9. Cullen Jenkins, DT, Philadelphia - Jenkins is a good interior pass rusher. He struggles against the run and because of that is not a full time starter. With Kyle Love a beast against the run, Jenkins could rotate in with him on passing situations.

10. Danny Woodhead, RB, New England - I'm a big Danny Woodhead guy. I think he is a big game player and is always reliable. His role would change in 2013 due to the emergence of Shane Vereen but I still think there is a place for Woody on the Patriots.
Dion Jordan, DE/OLB, Oregon - Freak athlete. He is expected to test extremely well at the Combine. I'm looking forward to seeing him in pass coverage drills as an OLB.

2. Barkevious Mingo, DE, LSU - He has been described as a workout warrior. He has excellent speed. He'll have a great 40 and should impress in pass rushing drills.

3. Jesse Williams, DT, Alabama - He is expected to put on a show in the bench press. I'm curious to see if he has the speed to match the strength.

4. Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU - Great athlete who was a little under the radar during the season. He'll emerge as a potential top 10 pick at the Combine.

5. Manti Te'o, LB, Notre Dame - I'm most interested in seeing his interview/press conference with the media. His interviews with teams will be critical for him.

6. Shariff Floyd, DT, Florida - Strong and fast. He should excel in all aspects of the Combine. His stock is on the rise and will continue to be after his Combine performance.

7. Tyrann Mathieu, CB, LSU - Expected to do well in drills, especially the three cone drill. He has good quickness. Although for obvious reasons his interviews with teams will be the most important part of the Combine for Mathieu.

8. Sam Montgomery, DE, LSU - I like this player a lot and I'm curious to seeing him in drills. He has great speed but is a little slow off the snap. High motor guy.

9. Phillip Thomas, S, Fresno State - I'm a huge fan of this kid. He has great instincts and intangibles. He might not be off the charts in drills such as the 40 but he will excel in coverage drills. He'll impress in the interview process.

10. Margus Hunt, DE, SMU - There is a lot of hype surrounding him leading up to the Combine. I don't know much about him so I'm interested in seeing him.

11. Matt Elam, S, Florida - Athletic and instinctive. Not sure if his speed is top notch, that's something I'm looking to see at the Combine.

12. John Simon, DE, Ohio State - Honestly I'm looking forward to seeing him simply cause he's an Ohio State player and I'm an Ohio State fan. He's a great player but he probably won't test off the charts at the Combine.

Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia - Tremendous athlete. Should test out extremely well. I wanna see if he can make all the throws in the passing drills. The interview process will be big for him as well.

2. DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson - I'm not sure if he has great speed, that's something I'll be watching for. He can make nice catches and should impress in receiving drills.

3. Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia - Quick receiver. I anticipate he'll do well in cone drills. Seems like a fluent receiver and should be solid in receiving drills as well.

4. Denard Robinson, WR, Michigan - What is this kid, is he a quarterback or a receiver? He's working out at the Combine as a receiver and he better have a good showing or his career might be over before it begins.

5. Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan - He had a great showing at the Senior Bowl and his stock is on the rise. Everyone is looking forward to seeing if his Combine performance can match his Senior Bowl performance and if it does he'll be a top 10 pick.

6. Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee - He is expected to flourish in the vertical and broad jumps. He has to show some fluency and consistency in receiving drills. He's the top wide receiver in this class so he'll be under the microscope at the Combine.

7. Montee Ball, RB, Wisconsin - He's a good player but really isn't expected to be great at the combine. I'm sure he'll look to prove people wrong and that's why I wanna see this kid in action.

8. Tyler Bray, QB, Tennessee - Maybe the most talented quarterback in this class. He'll definitely impress in passing drills. He can really improve his stock if he tests out well.

9. Jordan Reed, TE, Florida - The thing to watch with Reed is his speed and ability to catch the ball. He runs good routes and is really good after the catch but he has to have a good showing in the 40 and in receiving drills.

10. EJ Manuel, QB, Florida State - Great athlete who has a good arm too. He's in the mold of a Cam Newton, it will be interesting to see if he can even come close to the impressive Combine showing Newton had a couple years ago.

11. Marquise Goodwin, WR, Texas - World class speed. He will undoubtedly be one of the biggest stories coming out of the Combine this year.

12. Joseph Randle, RB, Oklahoma State - Don't know much about this player but he's getting a lot of Buzz. With Eddie Lacy not participating in the Combine Randle has a chance to shine at running back this weekend.

1. Dwayne Bowe, WR, Kansas City - I'm ready to move on from Wes Welker. I feel like the Patriots offense needs to go in a different direction. I think the place to start is to find a big physical outside receiver. The Patriots have enough weapons in the middle of the field with Gronkowski and Hernandez. They need to spread it out, have the ability to go deep, and give Brady a receiver who he can just throw it up to and let him go get it. To me the player that fits all those needs is Kansas City Wide Receiver Dwayne Bowe. He is a physical outside receiver who has speed and can bring an element to the Patriots offense they haven't had during the Brady era. Also note recently added offensive assistant Brian Daboll was Bowe's offensive coordinator in Kansas City last season.

2. Aqib Talib, CB, New England - When Aqib Talib arrived in New England back in November the Patriots Defense improved dramatically. He changed the way the Patriots defense played. He is exactly the type of player the Patriots need and they can't afford to loss him. He might not be the best Cornerback in the NFL but he's pretty good and he works in the New England system. If the Patriots are at all concerned they can't sign him long term they should Franchise him.

3. Sebastian Vollmer, OT, New England - I thought Sebastian Vollmer played at a Pro Bowl level in 2012. He is a tremendous pass protector which is critical in the Patriots offense. He is a young offensive lineman who has a lot of good years left. His back injuries are a concern but he got through 2012 relatively healthy. Personally I believe Vollmer is the type of guy the Patriots can resign on a hometown discount. I really want him back in a Patriots uniform and I expect them to get a deal done.

4. Ed Reed, S, Baltimore - The Patriots need a veteran on their young defense and I think Reed is the perfect player for that role. He might not be the player he used to be but he still provides a presence in the secondary. He is such a great leader and basically a coach on the field which might be the biggest need on this defense. His great relationship with Bill Belichick makes the signing more likely.

5. Sean Smith, CB, Miami - There hasn't been a lot of buzz surrounding Sean Smith so far this offseason but I'm telling you there should be. I love this player. He brings a swagger at cornerback like not too many players can. He is durable and dependable. He has great size and can compete with big physical receivers. He would be perfect on the Patriots defense.

6. Louis Delmas, S, Detroit - Delmas is no Ed Reed but I think he has some similarities to Reed. He is a playmaking safety who has good leadership qualities. He would be a nice compliment next to McCourty at safety. He is a pretty physical safety as well which the Patriots need.

7. Danny Amendola, WR, St. Louis - I want the Patriots to bring in Amendola to fill a Wes Welker type of role. Like I said before I want the Patriots to change their offense a bit but if they are going to continue to use a slot receiver I want them to go with the cheaper younger Amendola over bringing back Welker. I would also like to see then bring back Julian Edelman and let him and Amendola compete for the slot receiver position. I believe that Welker was a product of the Patriots system and if Amendola stays healthy, which I understand is a big if, he can put up numbers similar to that of Welker.

8. Desmond Bryant, DT, Oakland - Bryant is a solid inside pass rusher. He would bring a presence that the Patriots were hoping Fanene would provide last season. Belichick went after a pass rushing defensive tackle last season and I expect him to do it again this offseason and Bryant might be the best available.

9. Dwight Freeney, DE, Indianapolis - I've been saying since midseason that the Patriots need to upgrade the defensive end position. While Rob Ninkovich was pretty solid I think the best scenario is to move him back to Linebacker and have him rotate in on passing downs as he is the best coverage linebacker they have and get a better defensive end opposite Chandler Jones. Freeney struggled in Indy last season as they switched to a 3-4 defense and asked him to move to outside linebacker. Freeney is a defensive end and he'll be looking to go to a team where he can move back to that position. The Patriots really need to improve their pass rush and Freeney would do just that. He would also be another example of adding veteran leadership to this defense.

10. Dashon Goldson, S, San Francisco - Goldson is more of a strong safety. He is a hard hitter who is great in run support but is also pretty good in coverage. He is different then other safeties on this list but would still fit nicely next to McCourty. The Patriots had him in for a visit last offseason so clearly they like him. Maybe this time around they will sign him. Obviously I feel like Safety is one of the Patriots biggest needs so I'd probably be on board with almost anyone, as long as they bring some physicality and play making ability.
The Patriots have had a number of running-backs line up in the backfield over the last eight years from Laurence Maroney to Fred Taylor to BenJarvus Green-Ellis and none of them were able to replicate Dillion's production. The Patriots have been unable to find their next great running-back until now.
Stevan Ridley has emerged as the Patriots lead rusher and he's running with it, pun intended. Ridley has 4 touchdowns and is currently fifth in the NFL with 490 rushing yards. He has back to back 100 yard games and 3 on the year. He is showing the ability to not only pound the rock up the middle but also bounce it outside and show his speed to the corner. He reads defenses extremely well, finds the holes and makes beautiful cuts. He is the most complete back the Patriots have had in a long time. Everyone has tried to come up with reasons why the Patriots are running the ball more in 2012, well the answer might be as simple as they have finally found their bell cow running-back.
The Patriots also have a great compliment of backs behind Ridley and they all provide something different to the offense which makes for an even more effective running game. They have their short yardage/goal line type back in Brandon Bolden and their change of pace/passing game back in Danny Woodhead. These two players have proven they can make plays when their numbers are called. Woodhead is good for at least one big play a game, and it usually comes on a crucial 3rd down play.
This running-back group led by Ridley is young, talented, explosive and ready to take over this Patriots offense. In my opinion it's no coincidence that the last time the Patriots hoisted the Lombardi trophy was when they had a dominant rushing attack to compliment Brady and the passing game. What the Patriots offense has lacked the last eight years is now a strength, this running game is legit and it just might be the missing piece to the Patriots hoisting another Lombardi trophy. Tavon Wilson will supplant Steve Gregory at FS by Week 8.

Wilson will be this team's starting Free Safety by Week 8. I've been extremely impressed by him in the preseason and think the Patriots found something in Wilson. I think Gregory will be solid and really help this Defense but Wilson will be better and they will switch roles by mid-season. Wilson will start and Gregory will play in sub packages. This move will be based on performance and not injury. Gregory will be healthy and a contributor all season long.

2. Jermaine Cunningham will have 10+ sacks.

Whether he eventually starts at DE or strictly comes in on sub packages Cunningham will have a great year rushing the passer. I could see his role coming together exactly like Mark Anderson's did last season. First half of the year he played during pass rushing situations and recorded 5 sacks and then eventually started by December and continued his strong play and record another 5 sacks. Cunningham's 2012 season could very well mirror Mark Anderson's 2011 season.

3. Nate Solder will make the Pro Bowl.

I think Solder's preseason struggles have been greatly exaggerated. Sure he has struggled but as we saw in 2011 he can be a very good if not great Tackle in this league. I feel like he will improve week by week and by mid-season he will be one of the best tackles in the league. His pro bowl prospects will be improved by the fact he's going to be the Left Tackle of the Best Offense in the NFL. Hopefully he will not play in the game though, as we hope the Patriots will be in the Super Bowl.

4. Greg Salas will have 50 receptions.

Salas is going to emerge as the Patriots #3 receiver and he will have a big impact in 2012. He will prove to be an upgrade over anything Branch, Gaffney or Stallworth would have given the Patriots. He is another player with knowledge of the system and has the youth to be consistent week to week unlike Branch and Gaffney. This is Josh McDaniels offense now and clearly he wants his guys in place. I expect his guys (Lloyd, Salas) to have big years.

5. The Patriots will have a Top 5 Defense.

The Patriots finished ranked 31 in total defense in 2011 and in 2012 they will make a Houston Texans like jump into the Top 5. I for one thought they weren't as bad as advertised in 2011. Sure they had some poor performances but at the same time they had some good games in the regular season and they played really good in the Playoffs. They under performed in 2011 but the talent is there and it has even improved during the offseason. They are young, athletic and talented. Players such as Hightower and Jones will really help this unit. Now that Belichick has the horses he can start scheming again like he did in 2001-2005.Tim Amarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13828596405228402367noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3562896846794880071.post-39239168216780998822012-09-05T03:50:00.004-04:002012-09-05T03:50:50.494-04:00Ten Predictions for the 2012 New England Patriots1. Aaron Hernandez will lead the Team with over 1,300 receiving yards and 12 Touchdowns.

I expect Hernandez to be the focal point of this offense moving forward. I think Josh McDaniels will be able to utilize him like no other player. He will line up at TE, WR, and RB. Hernandez also has a chance to lead the Team in receptions, he should have over 100 but I'll still give the nod to Welker in that category. He might even add a couple hundred yards rushing. Hernandez is a special player and will show it in 2012.

2. Brandon Lloyd will have 75 catches.

I believe Lloyd will have a pretty solid season for the Patriots but won't be off the charts. He is not the second coming of the 2007 Randy Moss. I can see him having around 75 catches for 1,000 yards and 7 Touchdowns. He is going to be the 4th option on this team behind Hernandez, Welker and Gronkowski so those numbers will be great for a 4th option.

3. Rob Gronkowski will have 10 Touchdowns.

I think Gronkowski is going to take a step back in 2012. He is still going to be a force but I think Defenses will adjust better and limit him, especially in the red zone where he killed teams last season. Also with added weapons such as Lloyd on the Offense his numbers will go down.

4. Brandon Spikes will play all 16 games and lead the Team in Tackles.

There is no question Spikes is a great player and a difference maker on this defense. The only question regarding him is can he stay healthy for all 16 games. I think this will be the year he does stay healthy and as the middle Linebacker of this defense he will lead the team in tackles. He should get somewhere around 100 tackles.

5. Devin McCourty will have a bounce back year and lead the Team with 8 Interceptions.

I don't expect McCourty to be as productive as he was in 2010 but he'll be a lot better than he was last season. I think he's a better player than he showed in 2011. Not that I believe Kyle Arrington will drop off, I actually think he's gonna be solid again but I feel like his Interception numbers will drop and McCourty will once again lead the Team and maybe league in Interceptions as he did in 2010.

6. Chandler Jones will win the NFL Defensive Rookie of the year Award.

Jones is an absolute beast. He is going to be a freak this season. He is going to rack up 10+ sacks and I believe he is bigger and stronger than anyone thought he would be and he will be solid against the run as well. This kid is a 3 down player, not just a pass rusher. He is going to dominate offensive tackles in this league.

7. Stevan Ridley will rush for over 1,100 yards.

Ridley has looked really good in the preseason. He is going to be a #1 RB in this league. I expect him to make a big jump towards that this season. This might be the best rushing attack the Patriots have had since 2004 with Corey Dillon at the helm. Benny was solid over the last few years but he wasn't explosive, Ridley is and will show it this season. I look for him to have between 8 and 10 Touchdowns as well.

8. Zoltan Mesko will be the AFC Pro Bowl Punter.

Gotta get Special Teams on this list. Mesko is a very underrated punter in my opinion. I think he might be the best in the league. This year he will get his recognition. He's gonna play a big part in helping this young defense develop by pinning teams inside the 20 all season long. He's going to the Pro Bowl.

9. Tom Brady will win the NFL MVP Award.

Tom Brady will throw for over 5,000 yards again this year and he will have at least 42 Touchdowns, I wouldn't be surprised if he nears his career and NFL high 50. He is going to have a better running game to compliment his passing attack which will open up guys to catch passes. His top 4 weapons might be the best he's ever had in one year. Brady is going to have a monster year, guaranteed.

10. The New England Patriots will beat the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII.

The Patriots will win the AFC East with a 15-1 record, beat the Houston Texans in the AFC Championship Game and advance to play the 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII. The Patriots will beat the 49ers 30-20 and Tom Brady will win the Super Bowl MVP Award.Tim Amarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13828596405228402367noreply@blogger.com0
