It’s refreshing every time you get a reminder that coaching matters in football. In fact, it’s the most important thing in football. Without good coaching you are nothing.
Take today for example, you have Bill Belichick and the Patriots holding the Cardinals to a season worst offensive performance and winning a must win game on the same day you have Tom Brady’s Buccaneers allowing Tyreek Hill to run wild for 13 catches, 269 yards and 3 touchdowns and losing a big game to the Chiefs.
Just a reminder, this is the same Tyreek Hill that was held to just 4 catches for 64 yards against the Patriots earlier in the season. Game planning your opponents, stopping what they do best, making them beat you in different ways. It’s things like that, that make all the difference.Maybe now Brady is starting to realize that it wasn’t so bad around here in New England. Maybe the best coach in football knew what he was doing. Maybe Belichick was actually what Brady needed.
Brady is down in Tampa Bay with a loaded offense, not to mention a decent defense but his coach and their program is horrible. They are underachieving and Bruce Arians is the reason. The Buccaneers have no discipline, they aren’t prepared, they are lazy, they’re stupid. Deficiencies you will never find in a Patriots team. The Bucs don’t game plan for specific opponents as evidenced by today’s performance. You can have all the offensive weapons in the world and build yourself a “super team” but if you don’t have the coaching, you’re not going anywhere.
The Patriots are just one game worse than the Bucs in the loss column and have been better than the Bucs over the last month and it’s all because of coaching. Maybe the game plans, the X’s & O’s haven’t been perfect all year, although BB’s had a few really good ones, it’s more about the culture, the discipline, the knowledge, the effort. This team is far from one of the more talented teams we’ve seen here in New England but Belichick sets a tone and an expectation, he maximizes his roster, he puts guys in position to succeed and his team fights. They may not win every game but they compete each and every week. They do the things necessary to put themselves in position to win.

Don’t get me wrong, Brady is the GOAT but anyone who thought the Patriots success over the last 20 years was more about Brady than Belichick was mistaken. Too many people have taken Bill Belichick for granted, he’s the main reason the Patriots have had their unprecedented success over the last 20 years. Coaching matters in football and the Patriots have the greatest coach that this game has ever seen.
