Preseason's Best

The Patriots have looked extremely impressive so far this Preseason. Both the Offense and maybe even more surprisingly the Defense have looked absolutely Dominant in the first two Preseason Games vs. the Jaguars and Buccaneers. While there have been many solid Performances here's a look at the Players who have really stood out in my opinion and have been Playing the Best Football for the Patriots in the Preseason.

1. Stevan Ridley, RB: Ridley went for over 100 total yards with 3 Touchdowns in his first NFL Game last week vs. the Jags and people wondered if it was just a Flash in the Pan or could he do it again. Well I think he answered that question with a nice follow up Performance vs. the Bucs the other night going for 84 yards on 14 carries. I don't think Ridley will overtake BenJarvus Green-Ellis this season but it will happen eventually. This kid will be a Legit starting Running back in this League one day.

2. Aaron Hernandez, TE: Hernandez has looked like the Offenses go to Target in the first two Preseason Games. Whether it's Tom Brady or Brian Hoyer out there at QB no Player on the First Team Offense has caught more balls then Hernandez. This past week against the Bucs while Rob Gronkowski struggled a bit with a few dropped balls Hernandez caught 3 balls for 42 yards and a Touchdown. Aaron is a Wide Receiver in a Tight Ends Body. This kid is a stud and will be a go to Target for Tom Brady for years to come.

3. Jerod Mayo, OLB: It looks like in the new Patriots Defense Mayo is gonna be aloud to make Plays. Done are the days of just the Tackling Machine. We are gonna see more Sacks and Big Plays from Mayo this year. In last week's Game against the Bucs he recorded two sacks including one on the first series of the Game. He finished with 5 Tackles, 2 Sacks and 2 Pass Defensed. He looked excellent in coverage, Blitzing and stopping the Run. He has an opportunity to be an NFL Defensive Player of the Year Candidate in 2011.

4. Andre Carter, DE: Carter looks like he's got a lot left in the Tank and is gonna unleash it this year in a system that fits him well. No stats show up for this guy in the Preseason so far but if you watch the games you can see plain as day that he is a force getting to the QB. He has also looked Great against the Run and should be the starting and three down Defensive End for this team this year. He is gonna be a difference maker in the Patriots Defense.

5. Stephen Gostkowski, K: Coming off a Season Ending Leg Injury in 2010 it was no guarantee that Gostkowski was going to return to form in 2011 but if the first two Preseason Games are any indication he is well on his way to getting back to where he left off. He is 4/4 on Field Goals so far in the Preseason and a couple of them for over 40 yards. His leg strength looks as good as before and you'd expect with the new kickoff spot he will be booming em out of the end zone this season.

There's just a few of the Standouts for the Patriots so far in the Preseason. With two more Games to go before the Regular Season I'm sure a few other Players will emerge and make this List and hopefully the players already on the List will continue to Standout.

Stidham Time

I’m done with Cam Newton. If I’m going to be completely honest, I was done with Cam Newton after those back to back losses to Denver and San Francisco in October. But, over the next four games he was decent and the team started to win so I bit my tongue and accept him as the starting QB. But now he’s on a streak of three of the worst games I’ve ever seen a QB play and his piss poor play throughout the year has all but cost the Patriots a chance at a playoffs. Over the last three games he has posted a QB rating of 23.6, 87.4 and 53.9. In the game where he posted the 87.4, he had 69 yards passing. In those three games he had just one passing touchdown to three interceptions while completing just 56% of his passes. Long story short, he can’t throw the football.  Sure, he’s made some plays with his legs and has scored a bunch of rushing touchdowns but that’s not what you’re looking for from your QB. It’s certainly not what I’m looking for. I want a QB who can make plays with his arm. I wan

Patriots Free Agent Wish List

Here's a list of NFL free agents I would love to see the Patriots target in free agency. This is more of a wish list than a list of realistic possibilities. I'd be happy if the Patriots signed just a few of these players.  1. Donte Whitner, S - Love me some Whitner. This Ohio State Buckeye is a hard hitting Safety who would bring instant physicality to the Patriots D. He is the perfect compliment to McCourty. He would also bring a veteran presence and leadership.  2. Eric Decker, WR - It's time to give Tom Brady a legit playmaking outside receiver. Some would argue Decker isn't even that but I'm not one of them. He is a big physical receiver who makes explosive plays down field. He would fit in perfect here and remember Josh McDaniels drafted Decker in Denver.   3. Aqib Talib, CB - This is the Patriots biggest free agent this year and they must find a way to resign him. When Talib is healthy he is a difference maker on this Defense.  4. Vonte Davis, CB - If the Patr

On the Bubble

With the Patriots heading to Detroit this Saturday for their third preseason game there a few players who are in need of a big game to earn themselves a roster spot. This is one of the deepest teams the Patriots have ever had and spots are limited. Here's a list of a few guys who I think are on the bubble right now and will need to do some serious work to make this team. 1. Brandon Tate, WR: With the new Kickoff Rule in the NFL this season it seems like Brandon Tate's value to this team is way down. He was a top 5 Kick Returner in the NFL last year but this year he may not even be needed as kick returns will be limited. He is a much better Kick Returner then Wide Receiver and because he has been injured most of camp he hasn't been able to improve his Wide Receiver skills. Also the emergence of Taylor Price doesn't help either. Brandon Tate is going to have to have a couple big games, receiving not returning, to secure a spot on this team. 2. Sammy Morris, RB: I
